ABSTRACT

RESUMO O objetivo deste estudo foi investigar as águas superficiais e os níveis foliares dos elementos-traço (Cu, Zn, Cd e Pb) da Avicennia schaueriana na área de proteção ambiental (APA) Tinharé-Boipeba, litoral sul da Bahia, com ênfase na relação entre a qualidade ambiental e o gerenciamento costeiro. Mensuraram-se in situ variáveis físico-químicas nas águas superficiais, e tomaram-se alíquotas para análises microbiológicas. Também foram coletadas folhas de árvores de mangue em nove estações amostrais. Realizou-se a leitura dos elementos-traço por espectrometria de absorção atômica com chama (F-AAS). As análises físico-químicas e microbiológicas das águas superficiais, ainda que preliminares, indicaram perda de qualidade e desafios ao saneamento, os quais merecem a atenção de autoridades sanitárias ou de saúde pública e consulta à comunidade para elaboração de soluções técnicas compatíveis com os usos da natureza e modos de vida tradicionais na APA. Os níveis foliares dos metais foram normais e não tóxicos, sendo menores do que em áreas costeiras impactadas. Os bosques de mangue encontram-se em bom estado de conservação e servem de área de referência, recomendando-se o monitoramento dos elementos-traço nas folhas ou sedimentos de mangue e qualidade da água. Esta pesquisa tem relevância à conservação dos manguezais, aos usos culturais da natureza e ao gerenciamento costeiro.


ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to investigate the surface waters and leaf levels of trace elements (Cu, Zn, Cd, and Pb) of the Avicennia schaueriana in the Tinharé-Boipeba Environmental Protection Area (APA), South Coast of Bahia, with emphasis to the relationship between environmental quality and coastal management. Physical-chemical variables were measured in situ in surface waters and aliquots were taken for microbiological analysis. Also, leaves of mangrove trees were collected at nine sampling stations. The trace element reading was performed by F-AAS. Physical-chemical and microbiological analyzes of surface water, although preliminary, indicated that there is a loss of quality and challenges to sanitation, which deserve the attention of sanitary authorities, and of public health, and consultation with the community to elaborate technical solutions compatible with the uses of nature and traditional lifestyles in APA. Leaf metal levels were normal and nontoxic, being lower than in impacted coastal areas. Mangrove forests are in good state of conservation and serve as a reference area, recommending the monitoring of trace elements in mangrove leaves or sediments and water quality. This research has relevance to the conservation of mangroves, cultural uses of nature and coastal management.

Secondary metabolites of plants are important resources for development of new drugs. Mangrove plants are very well known sources of wide variety of secondary metabolites. Many of these secondary metabolites from mangroves have been found to possess significant biological activities where human health is concerned. Avicennia albaBlume is one such mangrove plant with reports of having many such secondary metabolites of clinical and commercial interests.Aim:To evaluate antimicrobial activity potential of A. albawood extract and to isolate new bioactive constituent(s) responsible for such biological activity.Methodology: Preliminary screenings of antimicrobial activities in different organic solvent extracts of A. albawood tissue were done by TLC-bioautography method and phytochemical nature of the antimicrobial constituent(s) in the extracts have been studied. One compound exhibiting significant antimicrobial activity, named as Albain 1, has been isolated. MIC value has been determined for Albain 1. The purity and structure of Albain 1 have been determined by HPLC, 1HNMR, FTIR and HRMS etc. analysis.Results: 1HNMR, FTIR and HRMS analysis have found out that the isolated compound Albain1 is a triterpene and the molecular formula is C30H48O4.It has exhibited remarkable antimicrobial activity against Bacillus cereus, Bacillus polymyxa, Bacillus pumilas (MIC 125μg / ml).Conclusion:The observed antimicrobial activity of the isolated fraction of A. albaoffer great potentials in pharmaceutical industries.

Viral diseases caused by virus infection have the characteristics of strong pathogenicity, high incidence of disease and easy to produce drug resistance. At present, chemical drugs are commonly used in clinical treatment to fight viral diseases, but the therapeutic effect of chemical drugs is not significant and most of them have toxic and side effects, which are easy to cause secondary injury to patients. The complexity of the active ingredients of Chinese materia medica makes it play an antiviral role at multiple levels and targets. Marine traditional medicine species are rich and diverse, it has been suggested that they have good antiviral effect and low side effects. The development and application of marine Chinese materia medica with anti-virus effect will attract more attention in the future, and has a broad market prospect. In this paper, 250 kinds of marine Chinese materia medica with antiviral effect recorded in the book "Marine traditional Chinese medicine" were reviewed, hoping to provide some reference for the basic and clinical research of marine Chinese materia medica with antiviral effect.

ABSTRACT

Mangrove forests have a simple architecture. They shelter a few number of arboreal species that grow in a saline environment subject to tidal activity. The research objective was to evaluate possible interactions between physical-chemical soil attributes and plant-leaf nutrient concentrations of different mangrove species. Different mangrove species growing in the same soil, and the same mangrove species growing in two different soil classes were evaluated as to their leaf nutrient concentration patterns. The study was carried out in mangrove areas of the State of Paraná, southern Brazil, in two distinct soil classes: HISTOSOL THIOMORPHIC Salic sodic and GLEYSOL THIOMORPHIC Salic sodic; and three different species: Avicennia schaueriana, Laguncularia racemosa and Rhizophora mangle. Two subareas were delimited within each area from which soil and leaf samples were collected. Samplings from five individuals of each dominant mangrove species were taken from the soil (0-10 cm deep) under each tree crown projection. The data was submitted to statistical analysis using a set of simple and multivariate analysis in order to determine possible differences among mangrove species leaf nutrient concentrations, and whether these differences might be correlated with the soil attributes or not. The results exposed that the nutritional state of the mangrove species is different and independent form the soil attributes in which they grow. Few correlations were found among leaf nutrient concentrations and soil attributes, suggesting differential selective nutrient uptake among species.


Los manglares son bosques de arquitectura simple que albergan pocas especies arbóreas, creciendo en un ambiente salino sometido a la influencia de las mareas. El objetivo de este trabajo fue evaluar las posibles interacciones entre las propiedades fisicoquímicas del suelo y la concentración de nutrientes en hojas de diferentes especies de mangle. Se investigó si las diferentes especies que se desarrollan en la misma clase de suelo tienen concentraciones de nutrientes foliares similares, y si las plantas de mangles de la misma especie que se desarrollan en diferentes tipos de suelos tienen concentraciones foliares similares. El estudio se desarrolló en manglares del Estado de Paraná, sur de Brasil, en dos tipos de suelos diferentes (HISTOSOL TIÓNICO Salino sódico y GLEYSOL TIÓNICO Salino sódico). Se analizaron tres especies vegetales diferentes (Avicennia schaueriana, Laguncularia racemosa y Rhizophora mangle). En cada área se delimitaron dos subáreas para recolectar el suelo y las hojas de cada una de las especies. Se tomaron cinco individuos de cada especie del dosel dominante para recoger hojas y muestras de suelo de 0-10 cm, en la proyección de la copa de los árboles seleccionados. Se realizaron análisis univariados y multivariados para probar si las especies de mangle tienen perfiles nutricionales diferentes, y si existe alguna correlación entre las propiedades del suelo con la composición química de las hojas. Los resultados mostraron que el estado nutricional de las especies de mangle es distinto e independiente de los atributos de los suelos en los que se encuentran. Las concentraciones de elementos en las hojas presentan poca correlación con los nutrientes del suelo, lo que sugiere que la absorción de nutrientes por las plantas es selectiva.


Manguezais são florestas de arquitetura simples, abrigando poucas espécies arbóreas, vegetando em ambiente salino e sujeito ao regime de marés. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi avaliar as possíveis interações entre os atributos físico-químicos do solo e a concentração de nutrientes nas folhas de diferentes espécies de mangue. Assim, foi investigado se as diferentes espécies que se desenvolvem sobre a mesma classe de solo apresentam concentrações de nutrientes foliares similares, e se plantas de mangue da mesma espécie que ocorrem sobre diferentes classes de solo apresentam concentrações de nutrientes foliares similares. O estudo foi desenvolvido em manguezais no Estado do Paraná, Sul do Brasil, em duas classes distintas de solo (ORGANOSSOLO TIOMÓRFICO Sálico sódico e GLEISSOLO TIOMÓRFICO Sálico sódico), e três espécies diferentes de plantas (Avicennia schaueriana, Laguncularia racemosa and Rhizophora mangle). Em cada área foram delimitadas duas subáreas para coleta de solo e folhas das espécies. Cinco indivíduos do dossel dominante de cada espécie para coleta de folhas, na projeção da copa das árvores, e amostras de solo de 0-10 cm foram selecionados. Para testar se espécies de mangue apresentam perfis nutricionais distintos e se há correlação entre os atributos do solo com a composição química foliar um conjunto de análises univariadas multivariadas foram realizadas. Os resultados demonstraram que o estado nutricional das plantas é distinto e individualizado, independente dos atributos do solo em que se encontram as espécies. As concentrações dos elementos nas folhas pouco se correlacionaram com os nutrientes do solo, sugerindo absorção seletiva dos nutrientes pelas plantas.

ABSTRACT This study assessed the relation between Cu, Fe, Mn, and Zn in the soils of the mangroves of Antonina and Guaratuba, on the coastline of the State of Paraná, and in the leaf tissues of A. shauerianaR. mangle, and L. racemosa through the analysis of correlation levels between these two compartments. Leaf samples were collected for ten individuals of each species in a 1000 m2 area delimited in each mangrove. Soil samples from 0-10 cm depth were taken from under the crown projection area of the selected trees to be submitted to chemical analysis. In the soils, metallic micronutrients presented the following order: Fe > Mn > Zn > Cu. In the leaves, concentrations were species dependent. InA. shaueriana and R. mangle, the profile was Mn > Fe > Zn > Cu, while in L. racemosa, the sequence was: Fe > Mn > Zn > Cu. Correlation analyses revealed only four significant correlations for Mn, Zn, and Cu in the soil and plant compartments. These results suggested that significant correlations depended on abiotic factors, inhibition between the elements, and immobilization and/or adsorptions of these metals by the soil.

Resumen Este estudio reporta las características estructurales y distribución de las especies en los bosques de mangle de Playa Blanca, Escondido y Rincón en Golfo Dulce, Pacífico Sur de Costa Rica. Se realizaron múltiples transectos en cada uno de los manglares. Cada 10m a lo largo de cada transecto se delimitaron parcelas cuadradas de 5x5m. En cada parcela se midió el diámetro a la altura del pecho y altura de los árboles de mangle y se tomaron muestras de sedimento y de agua intersticial (salinidad). Se determinó la densidad total y por especie para cada manglar, el área basal y valor de importancia por especie y la complejidad general entre los manglares. Las especies dominantes en los tres manglares estudiados fueron Rhizophora racemosa y Pelliciera rhizophorae. Los manglares de Playa Blanca y Rincón presentaron mayor similitud en la estructura del bosque entre sí que con el manglar de Escondido. Playa Blanca fue el bosque de mayor altura del dosel y menor densidad; mientras que Escondido presentó mayor densidad y menor altura, así como el menor número de especies y el único donde se encontró la especie Conocarpus erectus. La composición de especies presente en estos manglares coincide con la reportada para la región. Sin embargo, la variación en estructura y complejidad entre los tres manglares es mayor a las similitudes con otros de la región. El estudio histórico y topográfico de estos manglares puede aclarar las variaciones en estructura y complejidad encontrada actualmente entre ellos.


Abstract This study reports the structural characteristics and distribution of species in the mangrove forests of Playa Blanca, Escondido and Rincón de Osa in Golfo Dulce, South Pacific of Costa Rica. Multiple lineal transects were carried out at each of the mangrove forests. Every 10 meters along each transect the diameter at breast height, basal area, and height was determined for all mangrove trees within a 5x5meter square plot. Sediment and interstitial water (salinity) samples were also collected at each plot. Total density of the stand was determined, as were the density of each mangrove species, the importance value and basal area per species, and general complexity indices for each mangrove forest. The dominant species at all three mangroves were Rhizophora racemosa and Pelliciera rhizophorae. Forest structure was more similar between Playa Blanca and Rincón mangroves than with Escondido. Playa Blanca was the forest with the tallest canopy height and lowest density, while Escondido had the highest density and the shortest canopy height. Escondido was also the forest with the least number of species and the only one where Conocarpus erectus was present. Species composition and dominance at these mangroves coincides with that reported for the region. However, the variation in structure and complexity among the three mangroves is greater than the commonalities with mangroves in the region. Topographical and historical analysis of these mangroves could further elucidate the present structure and complexity variation among them. Rev. Biol. Trop. 63 (Suppl. 1): 199-208. ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of different levels of shading on the development of seedlings of three mangrove species (Avicennia germinans (L.) Stearn., Rhizophora mangle L. and Laguncularia racemosa (L.) Gaertn. f.). The experiment was conducted at the community of Tamatateua, Ajuruteua peninsula, Bragança, PA, Brazil. For seedling production, the propagules and seeds of the mangrove species were planted in polyethylene bags (17 x 27 cm), filled with a typical mangrove substrate. The seedlings of the three species were grown under full sun (0), 30% and 60% shading, in a completely randomized design, a 3 x 3 factorial (three species and three shading levels), with eight seedlings per replication. After nine months under shading, plant samples were taken. The variables evaluated were: the shoot/height ratio, stem diameter, shoot dry matter, stem mass, root dry matter, total dry mass matter and morphological indices. Growth of seedlings of R. mangle occurred at all light levels. Seedlings of A. germinans grew faster at full sun and at 30% shading. Whereas, seedlings of L. racemosa were able to grow at 30 and 60% shading, but they also grew faster at full sunlight.


O objetivo do estudo foi avaliar a influência de diferentes níveis de sombreamento sobre o desenvolvimento de mudas das espécies arbóreas de mangue Avicennia germinans (L.) Stearn., Rhizophora mangle L. e Laguncularia racemosa (L.) Gaertn. f. O experimento foi conduzido na comunidade de Tamatateua, na península de Ajuruteua, município de Bragança. Para a produção das mudas, os propágulos das espécies arbóreas de mangue foram semeados em embalagens de polietileno (17 x 27 cm), preenchidas com substrato típico de manguezal. As mudas das três espécies foram testadas a pleno sol, 30% e 60% de sombreamento em delineamento experimental inteiramente casualizado em esquema fatorial (3 x 3) x 3 (3 espécies arbóreas e 3 níveis de sombreamento). Após as plantas atingirem a idade de nove meses, retiraram-se amostras de oito mudas por repetição de cada tratamento. As variáveis avaliadas foram: altura da parte aérea, diâmetro do coleto, massa da parte aérea, massa seca do caule, matéria seca das raízes e matéria seca total e índices morfológicos. O crescimento das mudas de R. mangle ocorreu em todos os níveis de luminosidade. As mudas de A. germinans apresentaram maior crescimento a pleno sol e a 30% de sombreamento. Já as mudas de L. racemosa foram tolerantes a 30% e 60% de sombra, mas se desenvolveram melhor a pleno sol.

The natural regeneration process allows the mangrove forests remain over time. Both, biological and physical factors can affect the establishment and early stages along the development of trees. This study examined the response of natural regeneration of mangroves in the Turbo River delta and El Uno bay (Urabá Gulf, Colombia) to intra-annual environmental variability. We quantified mortality, survival and recruitment of seedlings of three mangrove species, seasonally during one year, in 72 semi-perma-nent sub-plots of 1m². In the sub-plots, the total height and the diameter at the base of the stem of all mangrove seedlings with basal diameter less than 2.5cm were measured. Damage by herbivores was also recorded to each seedling. While Laguncularia racemosa recorded the highest rates of mortality, Rhizophora mangle showed the highest survival rate during the study period, although Avicennia germinans dominated the natural regeneration. Through a Redundancy Analysis these processes were associated to environmental variables such as: Direct Site Factor-DSF (sunlight), sediments input rate, herbivory, distances from mangroves to the river, to inner lakes, and to the coastline. These variables explained 43% of the natural regeneration variation; sedimentation rate was the most important variable, while light was very representative for the R. mangle survival. Based on historical records of precipitation, Turbo River flow rate and associated sediment loads, it was established that during the highest precipitation peak, the survival of all species decreases and during the dry season, when the conditions of flooding and sediments input were lower, it was improved. The results indicated that the sediments input rates and sunlight play an important role in the survival of natural regeneration of evaluated mangrove species.


En los bosques de mangle, tanto factores biológicos como físicos, afectan el establecimiento y los estados tempranos de desarrollo de los árboles y determinan la distribución espacial de las especies. Se evaluó la respuesta de la regeneración natural de los manglares del delta del río Turbo y la bahía El Uno a la variabilidad ambiental y climática intra-anual. Se cuantificaron la mortalidad, la sobrevivencia y el reclutamiento de las plántulas de tres especies, estacionalmente durante un año. Avicennia germinans dominó la regeneración natural, Rhizophora mangle presentó la mayor la supervivencia y Laguncularia racemosa la mayor mortalidad. Estos procesos se asociaron principalmente con el aporte de sedimentos aluviales, la disponibilidad de luz, la herbivoría, la distancia al río, a las lagunas internas y a la línea de costa, las cuales explicaron el 43% de la variación en la regeneración. La sedimentación fue la variable más importante para el reclutamiento de A. germinans, mientras la luz fue muy representativa para la supervivencia de R. mangle. Con base en registros históricos de precipitación, caudales y carga de sedimentos, se estableció que en la época con mayor precipitación se presenta un descenso en la supervivencia, y en la época seca se favorece el balance entre el reclutamiento y la mortalidad. Los resultados indicaron que la precipitación, el aporte de sedimentos y la luz desempeñan un papel importante en el proceso de la regeneración de las especies evaluadas.

ABSTRACT

Genetic diversity was analysed in three populations of the mangrove species, Avicennia marina by using random amplified polymorphic DNA-polymerase chain reaction (RAPD-PCR). Ten random decamer primers were used to score the diversity from three locations of eastcoast of India: Parangipettai (Tamil Nadu), Kakkinada (Andhra Pradesh) and Sundarbans (West Bengal). These primers produced 388 scorable DNA fragments, of which 252 (64.98%) were polymorphic, 182 (46.90%) were monomorphic, and 14 (3.61%) were unique. RAPD banding patterns displayed variations between and within the populations, while, there was no morphological variation.

Objective: leaf extract of A. marina was tested on the growth of clinically isolated multi-drug resistant Staphylococcus aureus and its bioactive compounds were attempted. Method: Clinical strain of Staphylococcus aureus, were isolated from sputum, pus and blood of different patients and 22 strains were screened for antibiotic susceptibility. Avicennia marina was extracted in different solvents and antibacterial assay was carried out using Kirby-Bauer’s disk diffusion method. Crude methanol extract of the mangrove was loaded on a silica gel column and eluted with chloroform and methanol (9:1 to 1:9) followed by ethyl acetate and methanol (9:1 to 1:9). Based on in vitro assay, the 12th fraction was subjected for minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC). The active fraction was analysed by using a Clarus 500 Perkin Elmer gas chromatography. Result: Based on the antibiotic susceptibility test, six strains (RMSA 6, RMSA12, RMSA16, RMSA18, RMSA19 and RMSA21) were resistance against methicillin, vancomycin and ciprofloxacin. The results indicated that the methanolic leaf extract showed the highest antibacterial activity against all the tested strains RMSA 6 (16mm), RMSA12 (15 mm), RMSA16 (13 mm), RMSA18 (10 mm), RMSA19 (17 mm) and RMSA21 (16 mm). The MIC of the partially purified extract showed potential results against all the multidrug resistant strains however, the lowest concentration was recorded against RMSA 6, RMSA19 and RMSA21 strain. In the GC-MS results, 5 bioactive compounds were identified from the partially purified extract of A.marina. Conclusion:The methanolic extract of A. marina has the more potential candidate to inhibit against multidrug resistant S. aureus.

A estrutura da floresta de mangue do estuário do rio Benevente, Anchieta, ES foi analisada pelo método de parcelas, com o propósito de avaliar a distribuição das espécies ao longo do rio. Os resultados indicaram uma tendência de distribuição das espécies, visto que Avicennia schaueriana Stapf & Leechm ex Moldenke e Rhizophora mangle L. exibiram maior dominância e densidade relativa nas áreas sob maior influência marinha, enquanto que Laguncularia racemosa (L.) Gaertn.f. e Avicennia germinans (L.) Stearn. apresentaram maior densidade nas áreas sob maior influência de água doce. A densidade variou de 700 a 7.866 troncos.ha-1, a área basal de 10,3 a 72,2 m².ha-1, a altura média de 2,0 a 16,4 m e o DAP médio de 4,7 a 27,3 cm. A maioria das florestas analisadas exibiu distribuição de troncos do tipo jota invertido, com ausência de corte seletivo. A contribuição em área basal foi maior na classe diamétrica ≥10 cm, indicando o elevado desenvolvimento estrutural das florestas estudadas. As florestas analisadas exibiram bom estado de conservação.


The structure of the mangrove forest of the Benevente River estuary, in Anchieta, ES, was analyzed by the plot method in order to evaluate the distribution of species along the river. The results indicated a trend of species distribution, in which Avicennia schaueriana Leechm ex Stapf & Moldenke and Rhizophora mangle L. exhibited the highest dominance and relative density in areas under greater marine influence, while Laguncularia racemosa (L.) Gaertn.f. and Avicennia germinans (L.) Stearn. showed higher dominance and relative density in areas under greater influence of fresh water. The density ranged from 700 to 7,866 stems.ha-1, the basal area from 10.3 to 72.2 m².ha-1, the average height from 2.0 to 16.4 m and average DBH (diameter at breast height) from 4.7 to 27.3 cm. Most forests exhibited distribution of trunks of the inverted iota type, with an absence of selective cutting. The contribution of the basal area was larger in diameter class ≥10 cm, indicating the high structural development of the forests studied. The forests studied exhibited good conservation.

A flora tem sido uma fonte valiosa de constituintes bioativos para manutenção da saúde humana. Tal fato tem reforçado a crescente investigação do potencial terapêutico das plantas medicinais. Neste contexto, o presente trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar o potencial antibacteriano dos extratos hidro-alcoólicos da casca, folha, e raiz de Avicennia schaueriana Stapf & Leechm. ex Moldenke, Verbenaceae. As partes vegetais foram coletadas no povoado pesqueiro de Siribinha, Bahia e os extratos vegetais foram preparados pelo método de maceração. Todos os testes de sensibilidade dos extratos vegetais foram avaliados por meio de testes não-paramétricos. O extrato da raiz de A. schaueriana apresentou uma atividade inibitória do crescimento superior aos extratos da folha e casca, com halos de inibição que variaram entre 7 a 18 mm de acordo com as concentrações e as cepas bacterianas testadas. Já a concentração inibitória mínima dos extratos hidro-alcoólicos de A. schaueriana apresentaram uma média de valores entre 0,62 a 10,00 mg/mL para as bactérias analisadas. Os resultados estatísticos confirmaram a diferença de sensibilidade dos microrganismos estudados frente aos extratos de A. schaueriana.


Natural products have been a valuable bioactives constituent source for maintenance of the health human being. Such fact has strengthened the increasing inquiry of the therapeutical potential of medicinal plants. This work had as objective evaluate the antibacterial potential from leaf, root and bark hydro-alcoholics extracts of Avicennia schaueriana Stapf & Leechm. ex Moldenke, Verbenaceae. The plant parts had been collected in the fishing town of Siribinha, Bahia and the plant extracts had been prepared by the method of maceration. All the tests of sensitivity of plant extracts had been evaluated by means of notparametric tests. The results of the test of diffusion in disk showed that the extract of the root of the A. schaueriana had been higher to extracts of the leaf and bark, with inhibition rings from growth varying of 7 to 18 mm; in accordance with the tested concentrations. Already the minimum inhibitory concentration of hydro-alcoholic extracts of A. schaueriana had presented an average of values between 0,62 to 10,00 mg/mL for the analyzed bacteria. The statistical results had confirmed the difference of sensitivity of the studied microorganisms front to extracts of the A. schaueriana.

ABSTRACT

We studied the microbial flora in decomposing mangrove leaves in relation to changes in nitrogen and tannin levels, and in penaeid prawn assemblages. Senescent leaves of two mangrove species (Rhizophora apiculata and Avicennia marina) kept in nylon bags, were separately immersed for 80 days in five tanks full of mangrove water. A known amount of decomposing leaves was collected every ten days from each tank for microorganism counts, total nitrogen and tannin measurement, and juvenile penaeid prawn counts. Five genera of total heterotrophic bacteria (THB), three species of azotobacters and 19 species of fungi were identified. The azotobacters showed a significant peak around 40-50 days after the beginning of of decomposition, similar to the trend for total nitrogen and for prawn assemblages. Rev. Biol. Se estudió la flora microbiana en hojas en descomposición de mangles, considerando nitrógeno, taninos y camarones peneidos jóvenes. Colocamos hojas viejas de dos especies de mangle (Rhizophora apiculata y Avicennia marina) en bolsas de nylon y las sumergimos en agua de manglar durante 80 días usando cinco tanques separados. Cada diez días extrajimos una cantidad conocida de hojas en descomposición de cada tanque. Hallamos cinco géneros de bacterias heterotróficas totales (THB), tres especies de azotobacterias y 19 especies de hongos. Las azotobacterias presentaron un pico significativo de abundancia alrededor de los 40-50 días de descomposición, un patrón similar a los del nitrógeno total y los camarones.

ABSTRACT

Leaf gas exchange was assessed in Avicennia germinans L. grown under different NaCl concentrations (0-40 per thousand), after salt-relief, and then during drought. Stomatal conductance (gs) and net photosynthetic rate (Pn) decreased with increasing NaCl concentration, and intrinsic water use efficiency (Pn / gs) increased. Under desalinization Pn / gs declined. Thus, gs did not change in plants grown at low NaCl concentration (10 per thousand), but increased up to 30-32% at higher NaCl concentration (20-40 per thousand). However, Pn was only slightly enhanced (10-15%). Under drought, Pn decreased by as much as 46% in plants grown at low NaCl concentration (10 per thousand) and by 22% at high NaCl concentration (40 per thousand). Thus, Pn / gs decreased and water use efficiency was lower during drought compared to estimates prior to salt-relief.


Se estudió el intercambio de gases en las hojas de Avicennia germinans L. en varias concentraciones de NaCl (0-40‰), después de la desalinización y durante la desecación. La conductancia de los estomas (gs) y la tasa de fotosíntesis (Pn) decrecieron con el incremento en la concentración de NaCl, y se incrementó la eficiencia en el uso intrínseco de agua (Pn / gs). Bajo desalinización Pn / gs declinó. Así, gs no cambia en el crecimiento de las plantas a bajas concentraciones de NaCl (10‰), pero se incrementó hasta 30-32% a las concentraciones de NaCl más altas (20 - 40‰). Sin embargo, Pn aumentó ligeramente (10-15%). En desecación Pn fue reducido hasta un 46% a bajas concentaciones (10‰) de NaCl, y a un 22% a altas concentraciones (40‰) de NaCl. Así, Pn / gs decrecieron y la eficiencia en el uso de agua fue menor durante desecación en comparación con los evalolres stimados previos a la desalinización.

Objective:To investigate the chemical constituents from Avicennia marina.Methods:The isolation and purification of the CH2Cl2 and n-BuOH fractions of this plant were performed,and the chemical structures were elucidated by spectral analysis as well as comparison of their spectral data with literature values.Results:Three novel compounds were obtained and identified as erythro-guaiacylglycerol-?-ferulic acid ether(1),marinnone A(16) and marinnone B(17),along with eighteen known compounds as threo-guaiacylglycerol-?-ferulic acid ether(2),eleutheroside E2(3),(+)-lirioresinol A(4),dihydroxymethyl-bis(3,5-dimethoxy-4-hydroxyphenyl) tetrahydrofuran-9-O-?-glucopyranoside(5),(+)-lyoniresinol 3a-O-?-D-glucopyranoside(6),(-)-lyoniresinol 3a-O-?-D-glucopyranoside(7),epi-pinoresinol(8),leucoseceptoside A(9),jionoside C(10),salsaside A(11),ilicifolioside A(12),acteoside(13),isoacteoside(14),ethyl ferulate(15),avicennone D(18),avicenone E(19),avicennol C(20),and stenocarpoquinone B(21).Conclusion:Three new compounds(1,16 and 17) were obtained and thirteen known compounds,2-12,14 and 15 were isolated from Avicennia genus for the first time.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the chemical constituents in the aerial parts of mangrove plant Avicennia marina. Methods The isolated compounds Ⅰ-Ⅹ were obtained by the combination of silica gel, Sephadex LH-20 column chromatographies and by semi-preparative HPLC separation. Structural elucidation was conducted by the modern spectral method. Results Ten compounds were isolated and identified from the aerial parts of A. marina, including acteoside (Ⅰ), isoacteoside (Ⅱ), syringaresinol (Ⅲ), 5, 7-dihydroxy-3′, 4′, 5′-trimethoxyflavone (Ⅳ), indolyl-3-carboxylic acid (Ⅴ), betulinic acid (Ⅵ), betullin (Ⅶ), lupeol (Ⅷ), avicequinone C (Ⅸ), and kaempferol (Ⅹ). Conclusion Compounds Ⅰ-Ⅵ are isolated from A. marina for the first time.
